CAPTAIN\S INNINGS FROM GREG JERVIS



Taplow completed an exciting three wicket Chiltern League win over local rivals Wooburn Narkovians on Saturday thanks mainly to a fine unbeaten innings of 70 from skipper Greg Jervis.



Visitors Wooburn started briskly and scored 40 runs off the first six overs. The introduction of spinners Simon Wigmore and Graham Kell regained control and Wigmore dismissed both openers. Angus Porter played freely on a good wicket and made a sensible 73, aided by Dave Smith (33). Taplow stuck to their task and kept Wooburn to 199-6 off 48 overs, with Ross Dunlop picking up two late wickets.



Taplow\s openers Gerry Bowyer and David Holland also got off to a quick start, but steady bowling from Karl Turner pegged the home side back. Turner took 4-40 as Taplow were reduced to 111-6 with just 14 overs to go. Graham Kell then joined Jervis and it was their stand of 75 that completely changed the course of the game. Kell took 16 off one over, and from then on blazed away to score a marvellous 45. Jervis, after completing his 50, stayed to supervise the victory, which was Taplow\s first over Wooburn for five years. Kiwi Richard Lane supplied the finishing touches with nine runs off three balls as Taplow made it home with one over to spare.
