BRUCE TRIES AND EASILY SUCCEEDS



An aggressive 78 from Nigel Bruce put Marlow Park in command in their Chilterns League match at home to Wooburn Narkovians on Saturday.



Marlow Park were put in on a wet wicket, and Chris Maskery (33) and Steve Earl (39) made a steady start against the Wooburn attack, with only Phil Day finding the right line and length to concede just 11 runs from seven overs. Day also made the breakthrough, trapping Maskery lbw with a ball that kept low. A brilliant boundary catch by Stuart Savage saw the end of Earl, with Park on 103-2 after 20 overs.



Nigel Bruce (78) then dominated the bowling, scoring with ease and hitting nine fours and four sixes, with his fifty coming in 39 minutes, before he was caught off Savage, who went on to take three wickets.



The Park were always heading for another big total, and Smith ensured this as he stroked the ball all round the ground in a quick 33, which included five fours and a six. Nigel Ashton (17), Mick McKeown and Tony Wasley also contributed as the home side declared on 250-7 after 45 overs.



Wooburn\s reply started well with Ian Cuthbert (42) and Paul Cooper (47) putting on 78 in 22 overs. The breakthrough came as McKeown took a wicket in his first over. The score moved to 110-1 before a dramatic slump, with four wickets falling for just one run in four overs, mainly due to spinner Keith Dormer (4-38) and some sharp stumpings from Ashton, playing his first game of the season.



Tony Wasley bowled nine overs for 12 runs, and the target became beyond Wooburn\s reach. Savage (36 not out) and Peter Harper (10 not out) held on for the last nine overs for the draw, missing out on an extra batting point by four runs, with the score on 171-7.
