Wooburn Narkovians defeated Stoner by 55 runs in the first match of the Hampshire club\s cricket week. Wooburn opted to bat first on an excellent pitch, but lost 2 early wickets. Rob Smith and Phil Day put the innings back on track, but after making a fluent 38, Smith fell to a catch off the leading edge.



James White struck three boundaries in his 14, helping to take the score past 100. By this time, Day was striking the ball well, mostly to the legside boundary. He completed a well deserved half-century, going on to make 73 before being run out. His innings included a six and 15 fours. Alan Cuthbert supported Day with a brisk 49, Richard Barker made 14 before receiving a nasty bang on the head, and even Dave Small hit two fours before Dave Rogers lapped him going for a third run. The declaration came on 223-7.



Stoner struggled in reply with wickets falling at regular intervals. Rob Rogers took four wickets in a long spell, with Ken Goodhead, Dave Small (3-5) and White contributing well. For Stoner, the two Perigo\s batted well, scoring 26 and 60 respectively. Sam Roberts also batted well towards the end. The innings was also notable for some entertaining fielding from Small, which often left his teammates in stitches.
