LOCAL DERBY ENDS IN AN ENTERTAINING DRAW



Wooburn Narkovians enjoyed the better of a draw against Taplow in the opening Chiltern League fixture of the season.



On a dull, overcast day, Wooburn were asked to bat on a green and slightly damp wicket. Paul Cooper and Ian Cuthbert started steadily against a tight opening Taplow attack until Cuthbert fell to Heaton. Smith and the younger White quickly fell, bringing Savage to the wicket. After passing his 50, Cooper succumbed to Wigmore, whilst Savage, with a number of lusty blows, kept the runs ticking over.



The over-exuberant Morris ran himself out and Day\s first ball looked river bound until Thorogood intervened at deep mid-wicket to dismiss him. Wake quickly dabbed his way onto the scoreboard, ably supporting Savage, who eventually fell for 49. Waxman\s first excursion to the wicket this season provided him with three brisk runs as Wooburn\s innings closed at 176-9.



In reply, Taplow fell to the wild and rampant Waxman, who bowled superbly on a pitch giving assistance to seam bowlers. Complemented by Wake\s safe hands, Waxman\s 12 overs earned him 6-15 to put Wooburn in a match winning position. However, the solid Lowe and supportive Perry edged towards safety as the overs ticked away, until Day broke through to leave Taplow needing to survive an over and a half, which they duly did. Lowe seeing his team through safely.
