Match Report

In a high-scoring game at Penn House Park, Winchmore Hill defeated Wooburn Narkovians by five wickets. A superb knock by the Wooburn skipper Paul Cooper of 75 proved the highest individual score of the day.

Wooburn began their innings at a slow rate against accurate and steady bowling by Mark Bradshaw and Andy Tilson, which held Wooburn to only 44 runs from 16 overs. Two quick wickets brought Cooper and James White together, and they shared a third wicket stand of 116, the highest partnership of the day.

White (40) fell to Phil Yearley (2-31) and, not to be outdone, brother Kevin Yearley dismissed Cooper and finished with good figures of 4-34. Steve Neat (1-24) and Robert Thompson (1-49) were the other wicket-takers in Wooburn\s total of 211-8 after their 48 overs.

In reply, Winchmore lost a quick wicket, but a second wicket stand of 85 between skipper Steve Haynes (54) and Roger Meeks (29) recovered the position until Meeks was run out at 92.

Colin Massey continued his prolific run scoring with a lightning knock of 52, and shared in an unbeaten stand of 76 with Mark Bradshaw (37), to give Winchmore victory after only 36 overs.
