WOOBURN FALL SIX SHORT IN LEAGUE RUN CHASE
Wooburn Narkovians fell just short in their run chase as they drew a close Chiltern League contest against Cookham Dean. Cookham batted first and had early problems with the pace of Paul Sullivan. Andy Pett and Pip Jay steadied the innings against Sullivan, Phil Day and Tim Waxman, who all bowled well.
Harper\s flight and deception quickly brought rewards as Pett and Carlos Thomas perished. However, Jay went on to make a fine 76, and he received support from Andy Neale (23), Mick Nunn (14) and Julian Gilbey (12) as Cookham reached 176-8. Sullivan ended with impressive figures of 12-5-16-3 and Harper took 3-58. There were also two run outs.
In reply, Wooburn openers Ian Cuthbert and Paul Cooper started cautiously until the latter mistimed a sweep and fell for 18. Smith gave mid wicket some easy catching practice, but Stuart Savage then joined Cooper and the tempo increased.
Savage blasted his way to a well-hit 62, while Cooper made 51. Runs and wickets continued to come, but Dave Partridge (3-46) and Mick Nunn (2-39) kept things tight and left Wooburn six short of a win at the end, with two wickets remaining.
