DULL DRAW ON FINE BATTING WICKET
Wooburn Narkovians and Stoke Green played out a dull draw in the Chiltern League on Saturday. Stoke Green were put into bat and effectively killed the game by taking their full 48 overs to amass 252-5.
On a perfect batting wicket, and with the ball quickly losing shape and shine, Stoke Green made up for an early setback with a big second wicket stand between Neil Simpson (70) and Russell (100). Wooburn, lacking experienced opening bowler Phil Day, were left to rely on the pace of Phil Cuthbert and Paul Sullivan, and only the latter was able to control the batsmen.
Ian Cuthbert and Jeff Morris claimed wickets, but with Dave Alexander adding 50 not out, Stoke Green reached an impossible 252-5.
With only 42 overs, and with Stoke Green bowling tightly, victory was never a possibility for either side. Paul Cooper (53), Ian Cuthbert (44) and Dave Smith (64) set the foundations for a solid reply, and Wooburn finally ended on 216-4 in what was not a great day for the spectators.
