BOWLERS SET UP WIN FOR NARKS

Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI recorded a comprehensive victory over North Maidenhead 2nd XI in the Chiltern League on Saturday. The Narkovians, the only side to beat the Maids in the League over the past two seasons, bowled superbly to dismiss the home side for just 80 as they chased what appeared to be a very gettable 131.

Wooburn batted first and were reduced to 42-2 by the opening attack of Sherlock Doris and Chris Ewers, who were unlucky to only pick up a wicket apiece. Stuart Foster top scored, making 41 before he was caught by Phil Hunt off the bowling of Paul Stockton.

The catch proved a costly one as Hunt broke a finger in taking it, and that reduced the Maids to ten men.

Spinner Gary Church then produced an excellent spell to wreck the Wooburn middle order. He reeled off four maidens at the start, ending with fine figures of 12-6-18-3, as only Mayo (21) and Brown (20) made double figures. Stockton took a second wicket and Chris Dozell (3-12) came on to wrap up the innings at the end.

Needing only 132 to win, a combination of good bowling and poor batting saw the Maids fall badly short. Brown, Ian Rundle (3-31) and Johnson (3-12) all had success.

At one point, the Maids were 56-8 with only one wicket to fall, but Doris (10*) and Church (19) added a semblance of respectability with some good shots at the end.
