The 1st XI suffered their fourth consecutive League defeat in a thrilling finish against Chenies & Latimer 1sts at Wooburn Park on Saturday.
Chasing 179 for victory, Wooburn entered the final over bowled by Chisholm needing nine to win with three wickets remaining. Three runs were gained from the first two balls but from the next, Richard Barker failed by just a couple of feet to clear the deep mid-off fielder.
Martin Tennant also perished looking for the big hit, this time stumped, and Mark Tennant was left with the unenviable task of having to hit a six from the last ball of the game for the win. Unfortunately, he succumbed the same way as his brother, leaving Chisholm the hero for Chenies with figures of 6-38.
Earlier, the visitors total of 178-7 had been based around captain Wlodarcyzk’s 62. Mark Tennant was the pick of Wooburn’s bowlers with 2-39 from 20 overs.
In reply, half-century stands between Dave Pidgeon (52) and Ian Cuthbert (25), and Pidgeon and Andy Tennant (31), got the home side within sight of victory, before the drama of the last over.
