The 1st XI ended a run of four straight defeats, but made it eight games without a win, when they failed to beat an understrength Boyne Hill 1sts on Saturday.



After the loss of a couple of early wickets, Andy Tennant and Dave Pidgeon batted Wooburn into a good position with a fifty each. Martin Tennant and Rowan Friend added the late order acceleration to post a total of 238-7 – a challenging target but not out of reach on a good batting wicket and quick outfield.



However, Boyne Hill’s thoughts of victory were quickly extinguished by a devastating opening burst from Mark Tennant that had the home side reeling at 23-3. Shortly after, in what proved to be a key moment in the game, Turner was dropped at slip off Rowan while still in single figures.



It cost Wooburn dearly, for while James White picked up a couple of wickets at the other end to reduce the home side to 85-5, Turner began to look very comfortable. With Ali somehow hanging on in support, the pair batted Boyne Hill to safety, with Turner completing a fine hundred in the process.



Ali finally succumbed to Dave Pidgeon with overs running out but that was the last excitement as Boyne Hill closed on 180-6.
