A bout of destructive hitting by James White was the highlight of Wooburn’s draw at Little Marlow on Sunday (21.04.02). After the loss of an early wicket, Wooburn progressed slowly as ex-Narks colt Mark Fisher bowled a testing first spell of eight overs which yielded only two runs (and those off a dropped catch). Dave Rogers and Paul Cooper put together a half-century stand, then Paul and James added another.



With 20 minutes to go before tea, a score of 160-170 looked likely. However, James took a liking to the returning Little Marlow opening bowlers and, with the aid of Richard Barker (mainly as a running partner), added 56 in four overs, allowing Wooburn to declare on 190 for 4 – James finishing on 77 not out.



In reply, Little Marlow started briskly, with Fisher again leading the way, pulling anything even remotely short. But it eventually proved his downfall when he swung Rob Rogers to Richard at deep square leg, who took a well-judged catch. That made the score 84 for 3 and was the end of any real hope Little Marlow had of reaching the target.



Wooburn bowlers quickly worked their way through the middle order with Phil Clarke picking up three wickets. At 124 for 8 with six overs to go, the odds were in Wooburn’s favour, but the placid nature of the pitch allowed the batting side to see out the game with very few alarms, finishing 155 for 8.
