Narks Collapse to Abraham

A poor batting display condemned the Sunday side to a 68-run defeat against Twyford. Chasing 162 to win, Wooburn collapsed to 93 all out, with only Richard Barker (25) and Martin Dale (16) making double figures. 



Some probing bowling, particularly from Abraham, who finished with 5-15, and a string of loose shots undermined every effort to kick-start the innings. Once Barker had fallen to a mishit pull, it was left to 14-year-old George Jafari to show some brief defiance with a couple of sweetly timed blows before Twyford wrapped up the win.



Jafari’s contribution to the game began in the second over of the day, when he snapped up a catch to give fellow colt Ben Sturgess an early breakthrough. When Barker struck at the other end to leave the visitors 13-2, Wooburn were feeling fairly confident.



Aided by the helpful green wicket, Wooburn’s seamers continued to look dangerous. However, Fort led the recovery for Twyford with a well-constructed 81, and although Steve Blandford and Rob Rogers both picked up a couple of wickets, the batting side were able to declare on 161-7.



It was a target that would normally have been considered eminently reachable, but on this occasion it proved to be well beyond the home side.
