Creditable Draw

The Sunday side overcame another week with poor availabilities to gain a creditable draw at home to Little Marlow.



With a fragile batting line-up, skipper Rob Rogers had little option on winning the toss but to field first. Fortunately, the Wooburn team demonstrated an excellent level of commitment in their bowling and fielding which, coupled with the slow wicket and outfield, allowed them to restrict the visitors to 169-8.



Matthews held the innings together for Little Marlow with 74. The highlights for the home side were a superb left-handed diving catch behind the stumps by Dave Rogers during Richie Barker’s spell of 2-15 off nine overs; Smith being bowled offering no shot by Phil Mellon’s off-spinner; and Rob Rogers turning one through the gate to bowl Little Marlow dangerman Glennerster. Rob finished with 4-55.



It seemed likely that any assault on the visitors’ total would need a big score from Dave and/or Richie. Unfortunately, while both of them got a start, neither could go on to complete the job, making 32 and 40 respectively. The remaining batsmen made a good effort to try and keep up with the run rate, particularly Josh Baylis (14) and Matt Curtis (13), but the game eventually petered out into a draw with Wooburn finishing on 149-8.
