Match Report
A ferocious display of hitting by Gimapau Keimelo destroyed Ealing and took Wooburn to victory with 9.5 overs to spare. The Papua New Guinea star hit a magnificent 109* in just 88 minutes. He was well supported by Richie Barker (37) in a stand of 149 for the fifth wicket, the second highest in the club\s history, after Wooburn had been in trouble at 41-4.
Fielding a guest trio from Egham, Wooburn found themselves in the field after losing the toss. Ealing started well through Thompson and Jooma. Barker bowled well early on, but suffered from some unorthodox lbw decisions. Chris Davies kept things tight, before Jeff Morris broke through with his leg stump full toss.
Gima then bowled with good pace, as the visitors began to work their way through the Ealing batting. Jooma held things together well to make an excellent 75, while Phil Day (3-20) chipped in with three wickets towards the end. The declaration came at 193-7 amidst flashes of thunder and lightening.
The rain held off and Wooburn\s reply started disasterously. Both openers made ducks to leave them 10-2, but Morris and Savage started the repairs. Morris (22) was then caught at slip, and Savage the victim of another lbw to put Wooburn in deep trouble at 41-4. Then came Gima\s onslaught. He hit the ball incredibly hard, with 15 fours and 5 huge sixes. Richie Barker kept a watching brief at the other end, sensibly feeding Gima the strike.
The introduction of veteran seamer John Lindley eventually broke the partnership, but now only 4 runs were required, and Gima finished things off in the next over.
