HUNT QUICK TO SEIZE INITIATIVE



North Maidenhead 2nd XI bagged a win and 20 points on Saturday in their Thames Valley League Division 3 encounter with local rivals Wooburn Narkovians. The victory was built on the back of a tremendous bowling effort on a flat Spencers Farm track by the hosts bowlers, especially Phil Hunt who recorded figures of 3-51 off 26 overs.



All rounder Hunt gave his skipper a nudge in the back, after being woefully under-bowled this season, by taking the new ball and producing a deadly accurate spell. Of his first 12 overs, nine were maidens and at his height he had bowled 19 overs and taken 3-15 as Wooburn failed to latch on to him. He was more than admirably backed up by Sherlock Doris (2-46) and Steve Duncombe (2-26). It was not until the last ten overs of their innings that Wooburn managed to score with some freedom, adding 53, led by a super innings of 57 not out by Richard Barker. At one stage Wooburn were 76-6 off 42 overs and struggling to reach three figures, but they eventually limped as far as 129-9.



North Maids\ young openers again led the way for their side, adding 73 in 19 overs, before Jonathon Peachey, aiming for mid on, skied a full toss and was easily caught by Cuthbert. Paul Carter (40) carried on before being adjudged lbw, and Duncombe came and went to leave the home side 88-3. Allan Greene and Simon Foster added the 42 needed for victory, with Greene finishing the game with his second big six.
