185 - 1
180 - 8
An inexperienced Narkovians team was taught a painful lesson at Chalfont St Giles on Sunday, as the home side’s batsmen took advantage of a disappointing bowling and fielding performance to race to a comprehensive nine-wicket win.
Wooburn had posted a respectable total of 180-8, thanks largely to a fine 62 from Sam Roberts which held together the top of the innings. However, having subsided to 127-8, it was an unbeaten stand of 53 in eight overs between Richard Barker (34 not out) and George Jafari (19 not out) that gave the visitors something to bowl at.
It was always going to be tough for Wooburn in the field with a side that contained five players under the age of sixteen, and the lack of experience was duly exposed.
Chalfont openers Cross and Lancaster demolished the Wooburn attack with a string of excellent shots, while benefiting from a number of fielding lapses, including a couple of straightforward catches going to ground. Not even the more experienced bowlers could stem the flow of runs, with Barker the only one not to go for at least six an over.
The Chalfont pair took their side to the brink of victory before Lancaster finally holed out at deep square leg for 94. Cross remained unbeaten on 65 as the home side cruised to a quick-fire win in just 26 overs.
