Match Report

2nds beat the weather

The 2nd XI beat the weather to record their eight victory in nine games, and retain top spot in TVL Division 6B. There were times when the persistent drizzle threatened to deny the Narks, but thankfully the rain held off just enough to Wooburn to secure the win.

Batting first, Stoke Green threatened to post a challenging total while Mohammed Shiek was at the wicket. The opener rode his luck to score 52, dominating an opening stand of 63, but his run out, thanks to excellent work from the Robster, sparked a middle order collapse. Phil Cuthbert, produced a fine spell to take 4-24 (strangely, all victims were bowled), and was well suppported by Graham Dare (1-41) and Ben Sturgess (2-37). Skipper Jeff Morris remained wicketless but played his part with 15 disciplined overs.

The steady drizzle started towards the end of the Stoke Green innings, and continued through tea. It relented to allow the Wooburn reply to start, and Angus Porter and Rob Rogers made a steady start. 57 were added for the first wicket before Angus fell lbw for 26. Meanwhile, Rob frustrated Stoke Green and delighted his own players in equal measures, in making 44.

After such a good start, only the weather could deny Wooburn, and thankfully the rain stayed away long enough to allow Alan Cuthbert (45*) and Stuart Savage (23*) to knock off the remaining runs.

An undercover BBQ followed, expertly organised by the Dares, as the rain teemed down in the middle. Sadly, 20 point wins for rivals, Chiswick & Latymer and Teddington Town, means that the 2nd XI\s lead remains at 28 points over 2nd place and 33 points of third place.

Next week sees the return match with Chiswick & Latymer.
