BIG SIX BRINGS UP A SAVAGE VICTORY



Wooburn Narkovians\ comfortable win over Division 3 newcomers Chenies & Latimer on Saturday has pushed them to within two places of the top of the league. Stuart Savage completed victory with a big six off Peter Brocklehurst as if to emphasise his team\s superiority in overhauling Chenies\ 185 for seven more than six overs ahead of schedule.



Wooburn\s bowlers tied down the Chenies innings from the start. Chenies made slow progress, but with three wickets down Duncan Beatty and Tony Connor were allowed to get away, hitting the ball into a defensive field. Connor brought up the hundred with a six off Morris. It had taken Chenies 37 overs to get there. They eventually made it past the 180 mark in a full 52 overs, with Sullivan picking up some late victims.



Chenies\ total never looked enough, but Wooburn\s openers Phil Lawless and Ian Cuthbert set off as if they only had 20 overs to make the runs. Lawless alternated crashing lofted drives with thick edges between slip and gully. He brought up his 50 by chipping the ball over cover where Robert Brown dropped a difficult chance. Cuthbert was picking up runs quickly too until he cut a short ball from Derek Spedding striaght to Bowen in the gully.



Lawless scored 77 in 89 balls before being stumped, advancing down the wicket to Malcolm Davies. The rest of the runs were mustered by the middle order, with Savage ensuring not too much time was wasted.
