Cookham Dean\s friendly against Wooburn Narkovians on Sunday was another good match, with the Dean ending 13 adrift with one wicket remaining.



Paul Cooper won the toss for Wooburn and chose to bat, and he led the way with a typical anchor innings, acquiring 94. One of the duels of the day was between Jon Palmer, who took 1-36 in a useful and no ball-free spell, and Alan Cuthbert (44). At the other end, Culora coped admirably with a powerful headwind, but had no luck. The Dean\s youthful attack was completed by spinners Matthew Eckett and James Rickman.



Bowling into the wind, and unveiling a remarkable googly to the delight of his fans, Eckett took 3-52, aided by three catches, including a notable effort by a leaping Lee Slater, enjoying a rare outing in the field. Wooburn ended on 228 thanks to a powerful knock of 61 not out from Stuart Savage.



The Narks also fielded a youthful bowling line-up, but they had little success early on against Paul Douch (56) and Harris (26), who marked his debut by opening his innings with a lovely six over long-off. Dave Henwood also had a day to remember, as after a series of sterling 30s and 40s, he finally notched up his first 50 for the club. However, when he pulled a long-hop into the hands of Martin Klosterman, that was the end of Cookham\s hopes, although Gilbey (21) hit the ball hard and ensured an honourable draw for his side.
