CARR DRIVES AWAY THE BLUES



Celebrations were plentiful and beer flowed liberally in the Wooburn Park clubhouse on Saturday evening, but alas it was not due to the home side\s performance. Instead, it was Hampton Hill\s long awaited first win for two years that was the cause for jubilation as they inflicted on Wooburn a fifth defeat in six games. The primary factor was Warren Carr who took all seven Wooburn wickets to fall, and then turned the Hill\s innings around with a hard-hitting knock of 73.



Put into bat, Wooburn\s openers started steadily, accumulating 70 for the first wicket. Dave Rogers held the innings together with a well constructed 73 and useful knocks from Dave Pidgeon (35), Chris Sullivan (33) and Phil Day (40 not out) ensured maximum bonus points.



The visitors chased well with Carr at the fulcrum of everything, never looking like a team that has been rooted at the foot of the table all season. Thirty overs of spin kept the game alive as a contest, although at 170-7 Wooburn seemed to have the upper hand. However, a superb cameo innings from Thornley, who struck 40 from 23 balls, ably assisted by some solemn fielding steered his team to 20 points.
