CUTHBERT\S CLASSY KNOCK EARNS DRAW
Wooburn Narkovians made an encouraging, but ultimately frustrating, start to their Chilterns League campaign at Winchmore Hill on Saturday.
Winning the toss, Winchmore opted to take advantage of the extra overs available to the side batting first. With a fast outfield and a short boundary on one side, Wooburn\s bowlers were never able to take command, despite three good wickets for opener Tim Waxman. Winchmore amassed a healthy 227-7.
Wooburn\s reply was rocked by the loss of two wickets in the first three overs, and it took a fighting, high class innings from Ian Cuthbert to put them back on track. Cuthbert finished on 75. Contributions came from a number of middle order batsmen, notably an unbeaten 43 from Karl Turner, but although the Narks finished strongly, they never really got into a position to threaten the Winchmore target.
