Wooburn 2nd XI\s match with Taplow ended in a draw, despite an excellent spell from Taplow bowler Keith Paskins (5-28).



After being invited to bat, Wooburn raced to 31 off seven overs. This good start was ended by a Wooburn wobble as Wake, Lawless, Pidgeon, Rundle and Turner were all dismissed for 40 runs. This left Wooburn 78-5 with 30 overs to go.



Opener Stuart Foster was struggling to find his form and hit the ball off the square, but encouraged by in-form Cuthbert, they slowly began to dominate. Cuthbert (30) saw Wooburn to 160-6 before he fell to a fine caught and bowled by Jervis. Skipper Mayo (19) then joined Foster for a final flurry to take the score past 200.

 

Foster\s marathon innings of 91 not out held wooburn together, and included his first ever straight six at Wooburn after over ten years of trying.



Taplow got off to a good start against an attacking Wooburn field, with Perry (26) and Roach (43) putting on 57 in 10 overs before Pidgeon took a sharp catch at square leg.



The introduction of Cuthbert (3-27) slowed the run rate, and he seemd to confuse the Taplow batsmen on a good Wooburn track. Pidgeon, after last week\s problems, performed well to have a dangerous looking Jervis stumped for 15.



As Wooburn strove for victory by ringing the changes, Taplow still played as cricket should be played, and only reduced this as the last over approached. Again, good batting had frustrated Wooburn this season, Reynolds finishing unbeaten on 27.
