BARKER CALLS TIME ON HILL



Wooburn Narkovians 2nds began their Thames Valley League season with a convincing 137 run win over Hampton Hill. All-rounder Richard Barker led the way, following a fine innings of 68 by taking 6-34 with the ball.



After the disappointments of last season, Wooburn\s batsmen put in a solid effort, with everyone making a contribution. Rob Smith and Alan Cuthbert put together an opening stand of 70 in 23 overs, before both fell in quick succession. Richard Barker and Paul Cuthbert then added a fine 60 for the third wicket, with Barker in particularly good form. His impressive 68 included four sixes, all at the river end, and his timing was excellent considering the early stage of the season. John Saunders also gave good support, before Phil Day pushed the score up to a creditable 200.



When Hampton Hill\s turn came, they were soon in trouble. Tim Waxman trapped Coates leg before for nought. Barker then replaced the injured Phil Day and took three quick wickets, reducing the visitors to 11-4. It was an uphill struggle from there, despite the best efforts of Wooburn\s keeper and one or two brave blows from Burroughs and Roberts. Paul Cuthbert chipped in with a couple of wickets at the end, but undeniably, the star of the show was Richie Barker.
