Match Report

After four successive draws, the 1st XI returned to winning ways with a comfortable win over Caversham & Redingensians 2nd XI. The Narks passed their victory target with 13.5 overs to spare to record only their second league win in a frustrating season.

Caversham & Redingensians were indebted to a fine unbeaten 91 by Norkett. The next highest score was extras, with 22, and only one other batsman passed double figures. The Wooburn bowling was highly disciplined in good run scoring conditions. The Redingensians pitch, as usual, looked bare and offered some help to the bowlers, while the cabbage patch outfield was fast and bumpy. Thanks to the efforts of Norkett, the home side managed to scrape together 157-9 from their 52 overs.

Mark \Gerald\ Tennant was probably the pick of the bowlers with 2-25, but he was well supported by Frank White (3-27) and Richie \Arkwright\ Barker (2-28).

The run chase proved a formality, with only the medium pace of Edgar Weekes providing any threat. Dave Rogers and skipper Andy Tennant saw him off, and then filled their boots. There were pies-a-plenty, and the Wooburn openers enjoyed themselves in the sunshine. They added 121 before Dave Rogers fell for 62, but Frank White then joined the fun as the Narks coasted home on 159-1.

Let\s hope this is the start of better things for the 1sts, and that they can push their way into the promotion pack.
