A Sunday in the Sun

In the hot sunshine at Wooburn Park, the Sunday XI comfortably overcame Dave Small inspired Ploughmans, defeating them by a healthy 136 runs.



After Richie Barker won the toss and cleverly decided to bat first, Jeff Morris and Alan Cuthbert were given the opportunity of fill their boots on yesterday\s excellent pitch. A partnership of 131 ensued, with Morris (78) in dominating mood. It was not a day for running, and the Wooburn all-rounder hammered 11 fours and 2 sixes, before being somewhat controversially bowled by a high full toss.



Alan Cuthbert showed some form for the first time this season, reaching 59, before a familiar middle-order wobble was rescued by the unlikely seventh wicket pair of James White and Dave Rogers. The declaration came at 222-6 after 43 overs.



Ploughmans, who had been left four short thanks to a late withdrawal and three no-shows, managed to up their numbers to 9, thanks to an injured player turning out and our very own Dave Small. A succession of sub fieldsmen kept their numbers up in the field.



Smally put in a good spell, and was unlucky to finish up with just the one wicket. Buckley was the most successful visiting bowler, with 5-39. 



Smally then grabbed at the chance to open the Ploughmans innings, and hit the ball cleanly in making 49, before showing his disappointment at holing out at cover. Sadly, the rest of the visitors batting did not last too long, with Tim Hall (6-4), backed up by Rob Rogers (2-52), cleaning up. Despite the early finish, an enjoyable day was had by all.
